FAIRBANKS—A joint venture between a Washington company and an Alaska company has won the second-biggest Eielson Air Force Base construction contract so far associated with preparing the base for F-35 fighter jets.

The Army Corps of Engineers announced Thursday that an approximately $44.4 million contract to extend Eielson’s utility system was won by a joint venture between Haskell Corporation of Bellingham, Washington and Davis Constructors of Anchorage. The contractors will extend steam heat and water services to the base’s South Loop area where many of the F-35 buildings are going up.
