July 19 – GOAL Pre-Application deadline (registered entities only)
The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s GOAL program provides grants, federal tax credits and zero-interest federal loans to developers and project sponsors who build affordable rental housing for low- to moderate-income families and seniors. In relation to the expected housing shortage, for-profit corporations can develop mixed income multi-family housing where a percentage of the units could be rented to the military and another percentage rented to low-income tenants.
To qualify for GOAL grants, tax credits and zero-interest loans, projects must meet one of two limits: 20-50 (20% of units at 50% Area Median Income) or 40-60 (40% of units at 60% AMI). Meanwhile, HUD funding sources limit the amount of subsidy per unit. See examples of previous GOAL projects.
Before you can apply for GOAL funding, you must submit a registration request for AHFC’s online system by 4:30 pm on June 30. And you must submit a pre-application through their online system by 4:30 pm on July 19.
